The City of Athens holds its municipal election Tuesday, August 26, and some important deadlines on the election calendar are coming up.

All but one of the Athens City Council sets are contested, and the mayoral election also has multiple candidates. Here’s who is running:

Important dates to know

With the election just weeks away, here are some important dates coming up:
- Last day to establish residency to vote: July 27
- Last day to register to vote: August 11
- Last day to apply for a regular absentee ballot: August 21
- Last day to apply for an emergency absentee ballot: August 25
- Absentee ballots may be hand delivered up until 5PM on August 25.
- Absentee ballots must be postmarked or processed by the common carrier not later than the day prior to the election and received not later than noon on election day, August 26.
- Run-Off election (if needed): September 23
Polls are open from 7AM-7PM. To find your polling location, check the Alabama Secretary of State website.
