A $1.3 million pledge from SportsMED in Huntsville means that for the next 10 years, UAH basketball and volleyball will be played at the SportsMED Arena at Spragins Hall.
SportsMED Orthopaedic Specialists recently gave UAH $325,000 toward a total pledge of $1.3 million to name the gymnasium on the UAH campus.
The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees approved the pledge and the naming at their Nov. 7 meeting.
What they’re saying about this UAH partnership
The new SportsMED Arena partnership builds on past support that has helped the Chargers thrive.
“We are so indebted to SportsMED and their long history of supporting the UAH Athletic Department. This gift is extremely impactful for our department. It is an indication that SportsMED is committed to investing in our university and community, and we could not be more grateful.”
Dr. Cade Smith, UAH Director of Athletics
SportsMed physicians have cared for UAH student-athletes for years now, so the athletic partnership between the University and the medical firm seemed like a natural fit.
“UAH continues to push the boundaries of research, athletics and academic excellence, and we’re proud to support an organization that’s driving growth and opportunity in North Alabama. This partnership is an investment not just in UAH, but in the future of our community’s health and success.”
Kelsey Siniard, SportsMED Director of Business Development
