Boeing has informed the state of Alabama’s Department of Commerce they will be laying off 71 employees on April 18th.

The news appeared on the state’s WARN list on Wednesday.

This is the third time within a year Boeing has reported layoffs. In November 2024, the aerospace company reported to WARN the dismissal of 158 employees. An additional 128 employees were let go in June.

Statement by Boeing

The following is Boeing’s statement about the current round of layoff published by WAFF 48.

“As Boeing and NASA continue to finalize contract revisions for Boeing’s work on the Space Launch System program, we have successfully mitigated a majority of the previously announced workforce reductions. While Boeing is committed to supporting NASA’s Artemis missions and delivering capabilities for the core stages and Exploration Upper Stage (EUS), workforce adjustments are still necessary to drive efficiency and cost effectiveness on the program as portions of Boeing’s SLS work matures from development to production. We will redeploy teammates where possible but expect to proceed with fewer than 200 involuntary layoffs in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.”

Despite the recent layoffs, in November 2023 Boeing did break ground on a project that will add a 35,000-square-foot addition to the facility that produces the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 seeker missile.
