What has become an semi-annual effort for the City of Huntsville’s Green Team is returning again this fall, as the Mayor’s Tree Planting Day is set for November 1 at Brahan Spring Park.
The annual planting event brings together community volunteers who want to help grow Huntsville’s tree canopy, one of the City’s most important natural resources.
Mayor Battle’s Tree Planting Day

For more than a decade, Mayor Tommy Battle has hosted a day where residents come together to plant trees at one of Huntsville’s public parks.
The event, a joint effort between the mayor and the Green Team, looks to get Huntsville residents involved in making the city a more environmentally friendly place to live.
“As our city grows, it’s more important than ever to grow our green spaces. Each tree we plant is a growing investment in our quality of life, and they’re one of the most powerful tools for building sustainable, livable cities.”

If you have never attended on of these, here’s what to expect:
- Green Team will prepare hundreds of tree planting sites and provide all the tools and supplies needed.
- Volunteers may drop in at any time, and all ages are welcome.
- Mayor Battle, City arborist Marc Byers and Green Team will share planting tips and talk about how trees contribute more than beauty to our community.
- Green Team will also give away free seedling trees while supplies last.
Since the first Mayor’s Tree Planting Day in 2014, the community has come together to plant nearly 2,800 trees at John Hunt Park and Brahan Spring Park. This year, the public tree planting event will add several hundred more trees.
This year’s details:
- When: Saturday, November 1, 9AM-12PM
- Where: Brahan Spring Park, 3771 SW Ivy Ave, Huntsville, AL 35805
