Rumors of furniture giant IKEA coming to Alabama have been swirling around for nearly a decade. And chatter has come up again that a new store is coming to Huntsville.

While we have been unable to confirm that an actual store is opening in the Rocket City, we can confirm that IKEA has leased space at University Place Shopping Center.

At least one media outlet has said IKEA plans to open a full-sized store in Huntsville at the shopping center, but the space leased by IKEA is just a little more than 46,000 square feet. Full-sized IKEA stores are usually between 275,000 and 350,000 square feet.

A representative at Colliers confirmed that the space at the shopping center has, in fact, been leased by IKEA, but could not confirm whether or not this is a smaller store or a Click & Collect Center like the location in Birmingham.

We will update this report when we get more information.
