CBS Evening News covers heartwarming story out of Huntsville community

On September 4, one of the most feel-good stories to come out of Huntsville this year reached a national audience when it was covered on the CBS Evening News.

Back in July, a neighborhood in Owens Cross Roads came together to make the birthday wish of Soren Griffin, a young child who has autism and a fascination with doorbells, come true — and now, people from all over the country know the story.

It all started when Soren’s mother (who owns the local business Arcadia Tattoo), Leah Farrow, reached out to her neighborhood’s Facebook page and asked for a special favor. She asked if Soren could trick-or-treat at their homes, and she even offered to pay for the candy.

To her amazement, the community response was incredible. Almost 100 neighbors said yes, and that’s how Soren ended up in a banana costume in the middle of July.

Perhaps more amazingly, not a single neighbor took up her offer of paying for the candy.

“He got Doritos and Goldfish and Play-Doh and Lego sets. I was a little overwhelmed by the kindness because I’m like, how can I ever repay this?”

It’s quite remarkable that a community of strangers was able to come together and give Soren a birthday he won’t ever forget!
