The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominees for its 2024 Small Business Awards.

The Chamber has some new categories this year, so get your nominations in soon!

2024 Small Business Awards

Here’s what to know about this year’s Small Business Awards:

  • Nominations are open now through May 3.
  • Winners will be announced at the 39th Annual Small Business Awards Gala Sept. 12.
  • There are 12 different categories for businesses and three for individuals.

Business award categories include:

  • Arts & Recreation Business of the Year
  • Community Impact Award 
  • Construction Industry Business of the Year
  • Emerging Business of the Year
  • Engineering & Defense Business of the Year (Small, Medium and Large)
  • Health/Social Services Business of the Year
  • Hospitality Business of the Year
  • Minority-Owned Business of the Year
  • Nonprofit of the Year
  • Professional/Technical Services Business of the Year
  • Retailer of the Year
  • Veteran-Owned Business of the Year
  • Woman-Owned Business of the Year

Individual awards will be given for:

  • Russell G. Brown Executive Leadership Award
  • Young Professional of the Year
  • Small Business Champion of the Year

How to nominate

Nominations for these awards can be submitted through this form.

Here are the guidelines for nominees:

  • Nominee must be a current Chamber Member in good standing; membership and account must be current through September 2024.
  • Nominee must hold a valid business license in Huntsville/Madison County or be a nonprofit organization with a valid IRS tax exemption certificate.   
  • Nominee must be independently owned and operated/ Nonprofits must operate independently from any government.
  • Nominee must be within the required employee count (under 250 employees); the only exception is the Engineering and Defense category. Employee count is the total number of employees in all locations.
  • Nominations will be accepted in the Engineering and Defense category for companies that are: Small (≤100 employees), Medium (101-300 employees), and Large (301+). An award will be made in each size category.
  • Nominee must have been actively in business a minimum of three years (by September 12, 2024); the only exception is the Emerging Business category.
  • Nominees for the Emerging Business category may not be more than three years old by September 12, 2024.
  • Nominee in any business category must not have received any of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber Small Business Award(s) in the last three (3) years, excluding Young Professional of the Year or the Russell G. Brown Executive Leadership Award.
  • Nominees applying for the Minority-Owned, Veteran-Owned, or Woman-Owned categories, MUST be 51% owned and operated by a minority, military Veteran, or woman respectively.
  • Awards will only be given in categories with 3 or more valid contenders.
