Who doesn’t love when a new work of art appears in Downtown Huntsville? This past Friday, a new mural was unveiled, revealing a stunning three-story painting next to Jefferson Street Umbrella Alley.
Ann Moeller, the brain behind this piece, created the mural to celebrate 75 years of the Junior League of Huntsville.
Psst: The Junior League of Huntsville helps Huntsvillian women build leadership skills and gives them the tools to apply their talents to the community.
“This mural, ‘Together We Rise,’ was created to honor not just a milestone, but the story of service and vision that has touched lives across this community for generations.”

What the mural represents

With the help of several assistants, Ann Moeller was able to bring this piece to life with a variety of vibrant colors. Each element of the mural serves as a symbol of growth for the Junior League of Huntsville.
Fun fact: Ann Moeller used VR goggles to assist with outlining the design.
“At the very top, butterflies take flight, a graduate climbs the last steps and an open door awaits. These elements represent the Butterfly Project—helping young women step into the future with confidence, from the gift of a prom dress to the opportunity of a scholarship.
Along the branches are other symbols of service: a small birdhouse for the Harris Home, where children in foster care find safety and shelter; a basket of apples for the many meals provided through hunger relief; and a girl with a balloon that evokes Panoply, the arts festival originally founded by the Junior League, celebrating creativity and the arts that bring joy and unity to Huntsville.
At the center is a staircase of books, each step a reminder of the commitment to literacy and education that lifts individuals and strengthens the whole community. And finally, at the base, a watering can pours life into the roots of a tree. It symbolizes the way service, care and vision nourish the foundation of a community—quietly, steadily and with lasting impact.”
