January is pretty cold by Alabama weather standards, but it is also a great month to go on a hike through some of North Alabama’s incredible nature trails and preserves.
Check out these guided hikes available in the next several weeks:
Family Sensory Hike at Wade Mountain

Spend an afternoon at Wade Mountain and use your senses to explore the forests of northeast Alabama! Among other activities, you’ll investigate sound mapping, a family-friendly activity that is a technique to listen to your environment’s soundscape and discover more of the nature around you.

Hike at Bethel Spring

This hike will start with an easy walk on the Bethel Creek Loop Trail. Things get a bit more challenging though as the route follows the Carpenter and Falling Sink Trails up to the waterfall.

Hike at Monte Sano North

Join the Land Trust of North Alabama on a climb up the north side of Monte Sano on a crisp January afternoon. This 2-mile hike includes Buzzard’s Roost Trail, which features a small waterfall at the wetter times of the year.

Hike at Chapman Mountain

Hike the “high trails” of the Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve. This hike will give you the opportunity to get out and see the upper elevations of the preserve, starting by heading south from the pavilion on the Moonshine Trail.
