Huntsville has already had a year of significant growth, and that’s not just the population of the city. Last week, the Huntsville City Council approved the annexation of more than 500 acres in North Huntsville.
The land is expected to be developed through a master planning process for residential and commercial development.
Huntsville will annex 572 acres

The land to be annexed is north of Bob Wade Lane and bisected by Mt. Lebanon Road. The Sam and Rosa Harris Family Farm LLC submitted the request for annexation.
The annexation aligns with the city’s growth corridor in North Huntsville. The annexation would also help support and foster new retail development opportunities along the Northern Bypass.
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at its Aug. 26 meeting regarding zoning for the property. More than 500 acres has been proposed for Residence 2 or Residence 2-B while 65 acres is seeking Highway Business C-4 zoning.
Pending approval by the Planning Commission, the zoning requests will be considered by the Huntsville City Council.
A year of growth by Huntsville

Last month, the city approved the annexation of more than 1,000 acres. The property lies primarily along McCutcheon Loop Road in Morgan County, with a smaller portion extending along Vaughn Road in Marshall County.
The city also approved an annexation in March that included more than 600 acres. The city is the largest in the state land-wise by more than 60 square miles.
