At last night’s meeting, the Madison City Council approved annexing property that includes the Costco at Clift Farm, which was previously in unincorporated Madison County.

What this means for Madison

According to Madison officials, the annexation strengthens Madison’s commercial development profile by “bringing one of the region’s largest retail destinations fully into the city, supporting long-term growth while keeping services consistent for the community.”

Specifically, the 2% developer fee at Clift Farm will expire, and customers will pay the same 9% sales tax already standard across Madison. Police and fire services will continue without interruption, as mutual aid agreements were already in place and remain active.

The Clift Farm Costco officially opened in November of 2024.
