Decatur municipal election candidates: who will be the city’s new mayor?

Municipal elections in Decatur are Tuesday, August 26. While we don’t know who it might be, we do know that the River City is getting a new mayor, as Mayor Tab Bowling is not seeking re-election.

With the qualifying deadline for candidates now behind us, here is a look at who is running for office in Decatur:

Who’s on the ballot for the 2025 Decatur municipal election?

When the election is over, Decatur will see several new faces in the City Council Chambers, as only two incumbents are seeking re-election in the council and mayor’s races.

Here’s a rundown of who is running for office in this year’s election (incumbent in bold):

For the 2025 Decatur municipal election, poll hours are from 7AM to 7PM. Make sure you know your district polling locations.

Voters must be registered a minimum of 14 days prior to the Aug. 26 election. If you have moved or had a name change, you will need to update your information prior to this deadline. Registration and updates may be done online on the Alabama Secretary of State website.

For absentee voters:

  • Last day to apply for an absentee ballot by mail: August 19
  • Last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person: August 21
  • Last day to hand-deliver an absentee ballot: August 25 by 5PM
  • Last day for election manager to receive absentee ballots by mail: August 26 by 12PM

A run-off election, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, September 23, and the organizational meeting for the new administration will be held on Monday, November 3.
