Decatur’s Point Mallard Golf Course officially reopened on Monday, June 1, after being closed since Jan. 19, 2026, for improvements to the course, clubhouse, pro shop and grill.

Point Mallard Golf Course is a 200-acre, 18-hole public course situated along the Tennessee River and is part of Point Mallard Park.

Why Decatur renovated Point Mallard Golf Course

The City of Decatur owns and operates Point Mallard Golf Course, which opened for play in 1970 and hasn’t had a major renovation since 2004.

In January, the city announced it would use part of a $35.2 million bond issue approved in October 2025 to fund a $1.5 million upgrade to the course’s irrigation system.

“When you cannot control water the right way, you cannot control course conditions. That makes it difficult to host events and deliver the level of play golfers expect.”
City of Decatur Parks and Recreation Director Hunter Allen

The irrigation system upgrade at Point Mallard Golf Course included:

  • A new pump house
  • An upgraded pump station
  • Modern controls for remote watering

Additional course upgrades included:

  • Turf planing with laser grading on tee boxes
  • Repairs to multiple tee areas
  • Sodding + sprigging of fairways
  • Selective tree trimming to improve sightlines + playability

“This project lays the foundation for the kind of course golfers expect, whether they are playing a casual round or competing in an organized event. Strong infrastructure enables a course to perform at a higher level.”
City of Decatur Parks and Recreation Director Hunter Allen

Point Mallard Golf Course clubhouse + grill improvements

Off the course, golfers will notice significant cosmetic improvements in the clubhouse, grill and pro shop spaces. Anyone can shop the pro shop or stop by the grill for breakfast, lunch or dinner from 7AM-6PM daily.

We stopped by this week for a pimento cheese sandwich and seasoned shoestring fries. The grill team tells us the most popular menu items so far have been the Point Smash burger (double smash patties, cheese, grilled onion, pickles and comeback sauce) and the Southern Slaw Dog (hot dog, slaw, mustard and crispy onions).

Loved the new merch in the pro shop with two choices of mallard branding (caricature or traditional) across tees, collared golf shirts, ballcaps, club covers and more.

Cost to play: Green fees range from $44 for guests to $31 for residents to play 18 holes ($21 for juniors). Nine-hole rates are half those prices, and seniors and military personnel receive a 10% discount.
