Phat Sammy’s, the tiki bar/restaurant in downtown Huntsville, announced its permanent closure via social media this week. The last day of business for the popular spot will be February 14. The bar has operated at 104 Jefferson Street South for the last six years.

In a statement issued on Facebook, ownership said the lease was almost up at the current location, so the decision was made to close. However, the statement implied that something new might be on the horizon.

“Huntsville, we love you, thank you for the past 6 years. With our lease renewal approaching, we’ve made the strategic decision to close Phat Sammy’s to focus entirely on the massive new projects we have in the works outside of Downtown, above ground.

We aren’t just closing a door; we’re laying the foundation for something entirely new. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been building, but first, we want to celebrate where we’ve been.

Our final service will be Saturday, February 14th. Come see us for one last drink in the basement before we shift our focus to the future.”

Nick Quinn, Phat Sammy’s owner
