Embrace the great outdoors on these 7 beginner-friendly hiking trails in Huntsville

The weather’s warming up and the birds are out chirping—so if you ask us, now is the perfect time to start hitting some of your favorite trails again☀️

Hiking comes with many health benefits, such as increasing cardiovascular health and reducing stress, but can also simply serve as a way to reconnect with nature after a long day of sitting in an office🌲

If you’ve never been hiking before and it seems like a daunting task to get into—no worries! Huntsville has a plethora of local trails that are very beginner-friendly. Keep reading to find out some of our favorites👇

1) Wildflower Trail

Enjoy a relaxing stroll on Wildflower Trail as it follows Fagan Creek near the bottom of the Monte Sano Nature Preserve. The path earned its namesake from the beautiful wildflowers that can be found along its length, which will begin blooming soon🌷

2) Railroad Bed Trail

Enjoy lush forest views along this trail as it winds through the Monte Sano Nature Preserve. In addition to the views, you’ll find signs along the path describing the area’s railroad history🚂

3) Tri for Ole Glory Route

This trail is located on the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Grounds and shows you everything they have to offer! There are also many aviation relics scattered along the route, so keep your eyes open for those✈️

4) Hays Nature Preserve

Come out and enjoy the scenery on this loop trail near Owens Crossroads. With little elevation gain, this route is perfect for walking, jogging or running👟

5) Alum Hollow Trail

Come out and conquer this scenic trail that goes through the Green Mountain Nature Preserve! Views include multiple small streams, the Alum Falls and Alum Cave🌄

6) Madison Nature Trail

Lookout for local wildlife as you follow this well maintained trail through the Madison County Nature Trail and Study Center. Despite being a short route, it offers views of a variety of landscapes, including streams and a lake🐟

7) Piney Loop Trail

Come be among the pine trees as you traverse this short loop trail. This route is relatively easy with minimal elevation gain, so you can leave the climbing gear at home🌲
