Affordable by Design: A Creative Cities Event

The Huntsville Committee of 100 is proud to host the Creative Cities Event, a pivotal discussion on innovative urban redevelopment strategies, featuring Amanda Loper from David Baker Architects. Building off the tremendous 2023 event and subsequent $50 million HUD grant the city received to redevelop the Mill Creek area, this event will once again focus on the importance of creative housing strategies.

Mill Creek is a 27-acre area that is about to undergo a major redevelopment. This comprehensive project will bring over 700 new housing units, including mixed-income options, alongside vital community services such as health care, child care, educational facilities, retail, and green spaces. The redevelopment will also prioritize connectivity to downtown Huntsville, making it a crucial part of the city’s future growth.

“This project is a game changer for our downtown area,” said a representative from the Huntsville Committee of 100. “In order for Huntsville to remain Affordable by Design, we must continue to think creatively about how we house people. Mill Creek’s redevelopment offers a blueprint for how cities can address housing needs while enhancing community and improving the overall quality of life.”

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at The Jackson Center.
