The English Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites anyone from the community to attend the inaugural H.E. Francis Readers and Writers Festival, a celebration of literature and creativity. This two-day event features public readings by visiting writers, opportunities for small-group creative writing workshops, food, fun, and fellowship.
The weekend will kick off with a Flash Fiction contest on Friday, April 4, where two winners will receive $50 gift cards.
Following the contest, a public reading will be held featuring Dr. Sam Moe (UAH) and Susan Tekulve (Converse College) reading from their new books. A reception and book signing will be held after.
On Saturday morning, interested participants can have participate in free small group creative writing workshops led by Susan Tekulve and UAH Faculty: Sam Moe, Melissa Morphew, David St. John, and Anna Weber.
Saturday afternoon will feature an event dedicated to the 2025 common read for UAH and Calhoun Community College,
Bite by Bite, by Aimee Nezhukumatathil.
James Braziel, from UAB, will read from his new book on Saturday afternoon as well.
The weekend will culminate with a community open mic, where writers from the community are invited to share their work.
