HSV.py (Python Meetup) Talks: llama-cpp-python / .NET & Python communication with MQTT and bleak

Bring your lunch and join us at Gigaparts for our monthly talks.

This meetup will feature J Langley talking about llama-cpp-python and Hamilton Woods talking about Python, .NET, MQTT and bleak. Please register at https://www.meetup.com/hsv-py/events/302429808/ so we have accurate headcount

llama-cpp-python and Quantized Models
J Langley will be providing an introduction of llama-cpp-python and quantized models. This will be a hands on session with a Python notebook and Google Collab. Anyone with Collab can follow along. It will start with an overview of Large language models and quantized models, and will then dive into llama-cpp-python, including hardware requirements, setting it up, and server mode and the OpenAI API.

J Langley has worked with AI since 2006, and he is the organizer for the hsv.ai meetup. Additionally, he has been working with software architecture, development, and DoD systems for over 20 years. He also serves as part of the Mayor’s AI Task Force.

Python bleak from .NET using MQTT

This short presentation will provide an overview of tools used to control a Python application, running on single board Linux computer, from a .NET Framework application running on a Windows computer. The Python application communicates with a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) device using the bleak library. (from bleak.readthedocs.io, “Bleak is a GATT client software, capable of connecting to BLE devices acting as GATT servers. It is designed to provide a asynchronous, cross-platform Python API to connect and communicate with e.g. sensors.”)

Hamilton Woods started learning Python around 2009, using Python to introduce programming to his son. Hamilton and his wife, Virginia, currently use Python for RESTful APIs, for database storage and retrieval operations, for communicating with industrial equipment (e.g., PLCs and operator interfaces), and for communicating with devices while they are being tested. They have used Python with ParaView and MATLAB for determining optical distortion through a flowfield by extracting and integrating density along rays through a non-structured CFD solution. They also used Python for developing a proof-of-concept system for controlling, capturing, and replaying motions of a joystick operated video camera dolly.

We hope to see you there, and as always, we are always looking to get new venues and speakers, so contact the organizers if you’re interested.
