Jeans 4 Justice

The jeans you’ll see in this exhibit were designed by local survivors of sexual assault and their allies to express solidarity with and bring hope to those who’ve experienced the violence of rape.
Jeans 4 Justice is based on a case where an 18-year-old girl was raped by her driving instructor, and he was initially convicted.
The Italian Supreme Court then overturned the conviction, stating that the victim’s tight jeans meant she must have helped remove them, implying consensual sex, not rape. This became known as the “jeans alibi” and sparked international outrage.
