Soul Asylum with support by Kevn Kinney to Rock The Princess Theatre Stage Tuesday, September 16
DECATUR, AL — The Princess Theatre is excited to welcome Soul Asylum to the stage on Tuesday, September 16 with support by Kevn Kinney.
Since the ’80s, Soul Asylum have been a group known for their raucous and emphatic combination of punk energy, guitar-fueled firepower, and songs that range from aggressive to heartfelt.
Soul Asylum remains one of the most inspiring and hardworking bands in the rock scene, having broken through commercially with the double-platinum 1992 album Grave Dancers Union, which contained the Grammy-winning Billboard Hot 100 Top 5 hit “Runaway Train” and No. 1 Modern Rock smash “Somebody to Shove.”
Their latest 13th studio album Slowly But Shirley draws from a wide range of styles, blending chiming psychedelic pop, grungy power pop, groovy funk rock, and ’80s college rock throwbacks with lyrics that offer up desperate romantic laments that exude sadness, regret, and self-flagellation.
Frontman Dave Pirner’s songs are a mix of real-life personal insights and lyrics about fictional situations, delivered with the band’s signature melodic grit. More than 40 years after Soul Asylum coalesced as a band, his prolific songwriting, combined with an energetic and unparalleled live show, ensures that the band isn’t stopping anytime soon.
“There’s a part of me that’s never gonna fit in, but I love being around people who love music, and I’m very loyal to the idea of whatever Soul Asylum is,” Pirner says. “The future is bright, everything is good, and if there’s something in the music that can make people feel like things are gonna be OK, then it’s mission accomplished.”
Kevn Kinney, founder and frontman of Atlanta-based rock band Drivin-N-Cryin is a highly-acclaimed singer, songwriter, musician, performer, visual artist and poet. He was recently inducted into both the Wisconsin Music Hall of Fame and Georgia Music Hall of Fame for his impactful legacy of art.
