Tyler Merritt’s Hope: This Changes Everything at The Princess Theatre

Tyler Merritt Returns to the Princess Theatre with Hope: This Changes Everything on August 28
DECATUR, AL — The Princess Theatre is pleased to announce that Tyler Merritt is returning to the stage on Friday, August 28, with Hope: This Changes Everything.
An actor, comedian, vocalist, author, and creator of The Tyler Merritt Project, Merritt brings audiences an evening rooted in humor, honesty, connection, and hope. The tour centers on creating hope right where you are, inviting audiences into a moving and emotional experience filled with laughter, reflection, and moments that remind us why life is precious and why every moment matters.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Merritt is known for his wide-ranging creative work across television, film, writing, music, comedy, and public speaking. His television credits include ABC’s Kevin Probably Saves the World, Netflix’s Messiah, Netflix’s Outer Banks, Apple TV+’s Swagger, Disney+/Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, NBC’s Ordinary Joe, Lifetime’s Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, and A24’s feature film The Inspection.
Merritt’s viral video, “Before You Call The Cops,” released by The Tyler Merritt Project, has been viewed by more than 100 million people worldwide and was voted one of the Top 20 videos of the year by NowThisPolitics. He is also the author of the memoir I Take My Coffee Black: Reflections on Tupac, Musical Theater, Faith and Being Black in America.
As a 6’2” dreadlocked Black man living in the South, Merritt is deeply aware of stereotypes and their potentially dangerous consequences. Through The Tyler Merritt Project, he has devoted his creativity to bringing his ethos of “Love. Learn. Create.” to life through words, videos, performance, and conversation.
Merritt’s work leads audiences through contradictions that are at once funny and sad, mysterious and relatable, commonplace and dangerous. With humility, compassion, humor, and honesty, he challenges audiences to see difference not as a dividing line, but as a force that can deepen empathy and connection.
In his talks, performances, and lectures, Merritt weaves together unity, empathy, compassion, and inclusion in a way that is accessible, moving, and relevant for wide-ranging audiences, including corporations, nonprofits, community groups, colleges, universities, and youth audiences around the world.
