Decatur nonprofit Everyday Sunshine expands with new thrift store location
Reading time: 3 minutes

In May, we shared about Decatur nonprofit Everyday Sunshine and its goal to find a new location to expand its thrift store and programming that connects students and adults with disabilities to meaningful work and job skills training.
That day has come. The nonprofit has relocated, expanded and opened its new thrift store in a much larger and more visible location in Southwest Decatur.
Read on to learn about the organization, its new space and how this expansion will help it serve more people.
What is Everyday Sunshine?

Inspired by experiences raising his and wife Andrea’s first daughter, Amelie, Decatur resident Jeff Sharp and the late Bobby Blount founded Everyday Sunshine in 2012 to “make the world a little more inclusive for those with disabilities.” Amelie, now a teen, was born with the rare brain disorder TUBB 5.
For almost a decade, the organization focused on musical foundations and kids’ entertainment, with Sharp, Blount and friends performing frequently at community events—many specifically for families with kids who have disabilities, but not all.
In 2022, Everyday Sunshine expanded to open its first thrift store in a portion of Grace Life Church, where it has grown over the past three years. The store raises money for the nonprofit while providing jobs and skills training to adults and teens with disabilities.
What the expansion means for the nonprofit + those it serves

Many volunteers joined staff over the last weeks of October to make the move to the new space, which is more than double the size of the previous location.
With about 10,000 square feet to work with, there’s simply more room for everything great about Everyday Sunshine, including:
- Stuff: Inventory is much easier to accept, sort, display + store for appropriate seasons
- Shopping: Racks, displays + departments are easier to organize + breezier to browse
- Jobs + Training: Best of all, the ability to expand job training programs in partnership with Decatur City Schools’ AIM Developmental Program + other nonprofits

Open since Oct. 31, the new Everyday Sunshine store welcomes donations, shoppers and continued support.
