‘Everyone wants to move to Huntsville,’ according to new study
Reading time: 2 minutes

It’s no secret that Huntsville is not only among the fastest growing cities in Alabama, but also one of the fastest growing in the country. The last few years have seen an influx of people moving to Huntsville, and a new study shows that trend is not changing.
According to a recent study from MoveBuddha, a moving/relocation trends publication, the Rocket City is still one of the hottest relocation destinations in the U.S.
People continue to move to Huntsville in droves

MoveBuddha identified the top city destination in each state, based on the ratio of moves into the city to moves out of the city. To determine the top move-to city in every state, the study reviewed the most recent mover search data to compile a list of moves planned for 2025.
The data used for this analysis includes searches made at any time between July 1, 2024, and March 10, 2025, where searches indicated they were planning to move at any time in 2025.
Using that data, the publication ranked cities with the highest ratios across the country, and Huntsville placed sixth in the study.
These are the 10 cities most people are moving to (with move in/move out ratio in parentheses):
- Johnson City, Tennessee (3.86)
- Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (3.25)
- Summerville, South Carolina (2.78)
- St. George, Utah (2.70)
- Fairbanks, Alaska (2.52)
- Huntsville, Alabama (2.51)
- The Villages, Florida (2.48)
- Duluth, Georgia (2.40)
- Portland, Maine (2.37)
- Gulfport, Mississippi (2.36)
The study points to Huntsville’s relatively low housing costs, combined with the city’s thriving job market. MoveBuddha describes Huntsville as “a human-sized metro with a strong economy.”
