Film competition in Huntsville aims to grow the Rocket City’s film community
Reading time: 3 minutes
After a pandemic hiatus, the time has come for the Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo’s 72 Hour Film Competition. This will be a fun family-friendly competition that encourages participation from everyone who wishes to be involved, and looks to boost awareness of the Rocket City’s budding filmmaking scene.
How to enter and how to see the films entered in the contest
All films are due no later than Sunday April 10th at 7PM. The finalists will be shown at the Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo on April 22nd and winners will be announced there. Anyone can enter, so assemble your team and get ready to have a lot of fun.
Entry fee is $40 per team and prizes will be awarded for different categories, as films will be judges on cinematography, editing, sound and other categories.
The contest’s organizer, Alex Gibson, said he hopes competitions like this will help grow the Huntsville filmmakers’ community, a community he has seen increase in size and enthusiasm since he got involved in the scene seven years ago.
With the success of the Rocket City Short Film Festival (now in its 13th year), and a growing number of people in the state getting into the art of making films, Gibson said he hopes the growing film community continues to expand.
“There has been a filmmakers community in Huntsville for years. But in the last five years we have seen that community grow much faster, and become much more active.”
Alex Gibson, Alabama Filmmakers Co-Op
The contest is open to anyone in the US, and the awards show/premiere will be live-streamed for anyone to watch on Facebook. To enter, send an email to alex@cinemaprofessionals.com.
