Nonstop flights to New York City — about the new $1 million Port of Huntsville grant
Reading time: 2 minutes
The board of directors at the Port of Huntsville airport recently submitted an application for a $1 million grant aimed at launching nonstop air service from the Huntsville International Airport (HSV) to the New York City market.
Just this February, Breeze Airways added nonstop flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from HSV. HSV has also seen a significant upward trend in airline traffic this year compared to 2023.
The potential addition of nonstop flights to New York City would provide more convenient travel options, minimizing the stress of layovers. Additionally, it could increase business opportunities for Huntsville, as New York City is home to one of the greatest cultural and economic hubs on the planet.
Aside from flights to New York City, what will this grant provide?
The new grant funds may be utilized for initiatives like economic air service studies, providing revenue guarantees to airlines offering the service, offsetting startup costs and reimbursing air carrier ground handling fees.
This application is in line with the airport’s strategic plan for the 2025 fiscal year, which includes the goal of securing nonstop flights to New York City with current carriers American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
