If you’re looking for a community service opportunity in the Rocket City, food banks and pantries are amazing places to start. There is an abundance of food banks in Huntsville, each offering different programs and unique ways to donate.

1. Food Bank of North Alabama

The Food Bank of North Alabama is one of the most recognized food banks in Huntsville. They offer a variety of hunger relief programs including Feeding Neighbors in Need, a Grocery Store Donation Program and Summer Meals.

2. Life Church Huntsville

As a part of Huntsville Life Church’s Outreach program, they make food boxes every third Wednesday of the month. Each box contains 12-14 food items to be distributed on every third Saturday of the month.

3. Huntsville Assistance Program

The Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP) runs an emergency food pantry and emergency financial assistance program. If you’re unable to donate, they’re always looking for volunteers to help with food stocking and sorting, bagging groceries and answering the financial assistance phone line.

4. Manna House

There are several ways to get involved at Manna House, from their nightly food distribution to their backpack food program. They have also assisted in putting on Stomp Out Hunger, an annual food drive that supports communities across North Alabama.

5. Salvation Army Church

The Salvation Army food bank in Huntsville is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Additionally, there are other ways to volunteer at food drive events sponsored by the church.
