According to a statement from Food City’s parent company, KVAT Food Stores Inc., ground will be broken on the new store sometime this spring, with an expected opening date in the first quarter of 2025.
Food City opening in phases
The grocer will invest $90 million to build six new stores and create 1,350 jobs over the next five years. When the announcement was made last spring that the chain would open these new stores, the company said the stores are to open in two phases:
Phase I
- Hampton Cove
- North Memorial Parkway
- U.S. 72 East
Phase II
- Downtown Huntsville
- Alabama 53
- County Line Road
Developers broke ground on the Hampton Cove store — off US 431 and Taylor Lane — in July of last year.
