Foundry Roasters training + tasting room now open at Stovehouse
Reading time: 4 minutes

Many people wander into the new Foundry Roasters at Stovehouse’s Gas Light Alley thinking it’s a typical coffee shop. After greeting them warmly, Director of Operations Remy Neal usually then answers the common question, “Is this a coffee shop?”
The answer is yes and no. You could call it one, given that people can literally shop for coffee there, buying freshly roasted beans, high-end machines, accessories, gear and more. But if you simply want a good latte, stroll on over to Charlie Foster’s several doors down.
Meanwhile, folks are encouraged to visit, ask questions and learn almost everything there is to know about a cup of java. Read on to catch the buzz about this new coffee culture concept.
A training + tasting room

Roasting, retail and education come together at Foundry Roasters, a training and tasting room designed to teach people about coffee’s origins, farming and how to brew better at home.
“We are predominantly a wholesale roaster and training facility, and since most of our wholesale clients are in the Huntsville area, it is easier for them to come here. So with this version of The Foundry, we’re doing what we do for our wholesalers and simplifying it for anybody to show that coffee is not intimidating, and you can have fun with it and create quality drinks at home.”

A bit of Foundry Roasters’ backstory

For Huntsville locals, the business name may sound familiar: Foundry founders John and Candace Stough started with Alchemy Lounge in 2016 at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, later expanding to The Camp at MidCity.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Stoughs sold Alchemy at The Camp. While that shop lives on as The Green Room under different ownership, the Stoughs kept the Alchemy name for their primary company.
They then launched The Foundry Coffee Roasting Company, shifting away from the café model to create a “farm-to-cup wholesale roasting and training facility.” They’ve operated primarily at their Shady Ridge Farms in Somerville until expanding to include this new roasting site at Stovehouse.
Shady Ridge Farms exemplifies its founders’ commitment to sustainability and the environment, too. A few examples:
🐝 They keep their own bees + are a Certified Wildlife Habitat, including some endangered species.
🫘 Test roasts + coffee chaff become wonderful compost.
♻️ The farm + sister companies operate with sustainable, closed-loop practices whenever possible.
