Free 2 Teach expands its educator resource program into Morgan County

Free 2 Teach, a nonprofit organization based in Huntsville that provides free teacher supplies to educators throughout the Huntsville metro, announced Wednesday, August 26, that it has expanded its reach into Morgan County.

The program already served Madison and Limestone counties—and all of the school systems in each county—and now adds three more school systems to its service area, which increases the program’s reach with 45 additional schools and more than 20,000 more students.

Up until Wednesday’s announcement, Free 2 Teach served educators with Huntsville City Schools, Madison City Schools, Madison County Schools, Athens City Schools and Limestone County Schools.

Thanks to funding and a partnership with Senator Arthur Orr (R-Decatur)—who is providing community service grant funds of approximately $170,000 to fully open the organization’s teacher resource center—Free 2 Teach will now serve educators with Morgan County Schools, Decatur City Schools and Hartselle City Schools.

The expansion will extend Free 2 Teach’s free resources and support to educators across an additional 45 public schools, for a total reach of 159 public schools across eight public school systems, open year-round to more than 6,000 educators working with nearly 97,000 children.

What services does Free 2 teach provide?

As Orr said Wednesday in his address to the community, resources for teachers (classroom supplies, instructional items, etc.) have become more of a financial burden on individual educators as costs go up and those items are not always provided by the schools themselves.

This is where Free 2 teach steps in. The organization, co-founded in 2011 by Eula Battle, operates a community-supported, year-round free supply store serving public school teachers and school staff.

Since its inception, the organization has given away more than $17 million in supplies to teachers in Madison and Limestone counties.

Beginning in October, teachers and school staff across all three public school systems in Morgan County will be able to register for shopping appointments at Free 2 Teach’s Huntsville resource center and shop for free classroom supplies and resources throughout the school year.
