Keep reading to hear from local artists, the mission behind the exhibition and what’s next for this growing creative space in Huntsville.
Honoring Black History through art

From layered mixed media to striking portraiture, the exhibition invites you in. This powerful pop-up exhibition featured the work of 13 artists whose work reflects joy that doesn’t need approval — it simply exists.
Whether you’re a collector, creative or just supporting, this exhibition offers a refreshing experience that sparks conversation.
The artists behind the message

Local artist Gary Jones created three pieces in the exhibition, each inspired by heritage and representation.
“The aesthetic beauty of African Americans inspired me to make this art. I create to keep our history alive.”

Artist Tiavalya Befecadu contributed a quilt that reimagines a 1917 photograph of a Huntsville Black orphanage band that traveled throughout the Southeast region of the United States.
“This quilt captures the joy of a Huntsville Black orphan band and brings their story to color.”
