Free Summer Sports
Disc Golf
Huntsville is home to a bunch of great disc golf courses including one of the oldest in the country.
If you’re looking to get into disc golf, we recommend picking up a starter set of discs from a local sporting goods store or checking out some of the local courses on the weekends where you’ll often find vendors selling discs and accessories.
Our recommendations, from easiest to hardest:
- Brahan Spring Disc Golf Course
- If you’re looking for a course that’s great for all ages this is the one to choose. Every hole is a par 3 and shaded, making it great for hotter days in the summer.
- 3251-3699 SW Ivy Ave, Huntsville, AL 35805
- Indian Creek Greenway Disc Golf Course
- This course is a bit longer but offers scenic views and wide open fields for long drives.
- 335 Harvestwood Ct, Madison, AL 35758
- University of Alabama Disc Golf Course
- This course is the most difficult on the list, with professional length holes (though most offer secondary shorter starting tees) and multiple water obstacles. We recommend trying this course out once you get the hang of throwing.
- University of Alabama in Huntsville
Biking
If it’s mountain biking or just a nice peaceful ride you’re looking for we’ve got several spots for you:
- Monte Sano State Park
- You’ll find some great local mountain biking trails here at all levels of difficulty.

- 5105 SE Nolen Ave, Huntsville, AL 35801
- Elgie’s Walk Greenway
- With 2.5 miles of trails suitable for both pedestrians and bikers, Elgie’s Walk is part of a larger plan to add 5 miles of walking/ biking trails to Hays Farm.
- 2560 Redstone Rd SW, Huntsville, AL 35803
- Big Spring Park
- Big Spring Park is the perfect place to have a nice ride around the lake.
- If you don’t have a bike no worries, there are blue bikes that you can rent for an affordable hourly rate.
- 200 Church St SW, Huntsville, AL 35801
