Mount Fuji, Nara Park + more

As an undergraduate student, Abby studied abroad in France and Denmark but never realized she could go on a trip as an online grad student.

During her three-week excursion to Japan, Abby got to see amazing sights. Some of her favorite stops were Tokyo, Shinjuku and Ginza, and she loved riding a cable car up Mount Fuji and feeding the deer biscuits in Nara Park.

“The deer in Nara Park are so smart. They will come right up to you as soon as they see you have a biscuit. They’ve learned that people bow to one another as a sign of respect, so they’ll nudge you then bow to you. That day in Nara Park was magical.”

If Abby could describe her trip in just a couple of words, she’d say “awe-inspiring.”

Gaining international business skills

Abby’s MBA concentration is in global business, and she plans to work for an international company upon completing her online MBA at UNA.

For her, going to Japan was not just a leisurely trip; it was an incredible experiential learning opportunity. During the course of the trip, she learned about valuable international business skills such as adaptive thinking and the importance of cross-cultural communication and cultural awareness.

Same opportunities as on-campus students

Abby attended UNA for her undergraduate degree and enjoyed many extracurricular activities. Thankfully, she still gets to partake in many of the on-campus perks while completing her MBA online.

“I don’t want to feel disconnected from this university because I love it so much. The professors do such a good job of making themselves available to online students, and they’re constantly promoting experiential learning activities—like the study abroad trips.”

Abby could not be more grateful for her study abroad experience and encourages other online students to take a trip with UNA.

“Online students should consider studying abroad because it helps them feel more connected. You never know who you could meet and the incredible friendships and career opportunties that will come from the trip you take.”
