Gas prices now down nearly 6 cents a gallon statewide ahead of July 4 weekend

Ahead of the 4th of July weekend, those Alabamians with travel plans might be somewhat relieved to see that gas prices have fallen considerably in just a week’s time.

With a weekend of activities lined up, gas purchases are expected to increase across the state. Luckily for travelers, average gas prices in Alabama have fallen to $3.36 per gallon, nearly 50 cents per gallon less than this time last month, and 6 cents per gallon since last week.

Which Alabama metro areas have the cheapest gas?

According to AAA, the current averages of gas prices across Alabama provide insight for those planning to travel. Knowing where to find the cheapest gas can significantly impact your travel budget.

Here is the average price for a regular gallon of gas in different cities across the state as of July 1, 2026:

  • Auburn: $3.37
  • Birmingham: $3.47
  • Decatur: $3.37
  • Dothan: $3.47
  • Florence-Muscle Shoals: $3.34
  • Gadsden: $3.32
