Gas prices soar just in time for spring travel season

Those of you planning to travel by car for spring break will need to budget a little more money for fuel costs, as the national average for a gallon of regular gas has shot up nearly 27 cents in the last week.
However, while gas prices have certainly increased here in the Huntsville metro, we are actually among the Alabama cities with the cheapest gas right now.
Gas prices climb in Alabama

In Alabama, the average price for a gallon as of March 5 is $2.94, according to AAA. That price is much higher than recent marks including:
- March 4: $2.88
- Feb. 26: $2.65
- Feb. 5: $2.55
- March 5, 2025: $2.75
Here are some of the average prices by metro:
- Anniston-Oxford: $2.97
- Auburn/Opelika: $2.96
- Birmingham: $2.94
- Gadsden: $2.95
- Gulf Shores/Orange Beach: $2.95
- Huntsville: $2.87
- Mobile: $2.95
- Montgomery: $3.01
- Tuscaloosa: $2.93
- The Shoals: $2.90
- The Wiregrass: $2.96
