It’s getting close to the weekend again, Huntsvillians! After a long weekend for the 4th, this coming weekend may not have fireworks, but it includes plenty of events in and around Huntsville.

Shows, theater, exhibits

Celebrate Star Wars, catch a live theater production or see some butterflies released at the Garden. But don’t miss out on the fun this weekend!

Here are a few events we thought you’d enjoy:

  • Rocket City Anime Convention: July 8-10, Von Braun Center, 12PM. Rocket City Anime Con will offer a welcoming environment for all-ages, celebrating the arts and culture of Japanese Anime, Manga, and Cosplay.
  • Star Wars Invasion: July 9-10, Early Works Children’s Museum. Guests can have their pictures taken with costumed Star Wars characters, and enjoy Star Wars-themed activities.
  • Butterfly Release: July 9, Huntsville Botanical Garden, 10AM. Guests of all ages will enjoy sharing in the magic of safely releasing live butterflies into the Purdy Butterfly House.
  • New Southern Momma Comedy Tour: July 9, Stand Up Live, 6:30PM. Darren Knight Live featuring Comedians Red Squirrel and Gary Cargal.
  • Noises Off: July 10, Von Braun Center Playhouse, 2PM. “Noises Off” is a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.

There’s always some great live music in the Rocket City, and this weekend is no exception. Here’s a handful of shows happening this weekend:

  • Kolby Dane: July 8, Copper Top, 8PM. Southern rocker Kolby Dane takes the stage at the Copper Top Friday night at 8PM. Don’t miss it!
  • Zoe Burdett: July 9, Redstone Harley-Davidson, 11AM – 3PM. Come out and hear some great music and browse some awesome bikes at Redstone Harley-Davidson.
  • Hank Williams,Jr.: July 9, Orion Amphitheater, 7PM. If you have never seen a Hank Williams Jr. concert, you’re missing out on a spectacular show.
  • Connor McMurray: July 9, Stovehouse, 7PM. Come see Connor McMurray take the stage on Saturday from 7PM to 10PM on the main food garden stage at the Stovehouse.
  • Kush Reggae Band: July 9, Sidetracks Music Hall, 8PM. Enjoy the sweet sounds of fantastic reggae music from the Kush Reggae Band.

Sports and fitness

Take a 7-mile hike at Monte Sano, catch a Trash Pandas game or two, or watch the best swimmers in the city battle it out at the Huntsville Aquatics Center. There are plenty of sports and fitness events in the Rocket City this weekend:

  • Trash Pandas vs. Lookouts: July 8-10, Toyota Field. The Rocket City Trash Pandas take on the Chattanooga Lookouts to close out their home stand this weekend. Friday and Saturday games start at 6:30PM, Sunday’s game starts at 2:30PM.
  • Rocket City Swim Meet: July 8-10, Huntsville Aquatics Center. The Rocket City Swim League concludes its 2022 season with the City Meet. This is some top-notch competition!
  • Hike the Land Trust Challenge – Monte Sano: July 9, Monte Sano Nature Preserve Trailhead, 9AM. Enjoy this 6.9-mile hike through the scenic Monte Sano Nature Preserve.
  • Twerk It Out: July 9, Trinity Orthodics, 12PM. Twerk Fitness is a fun yet fitness friendly event. So prepare to get some friends together and learn how to twerk all while working out.
  • 2022 Wingfoot Running Camp: July 10, UAH, 1PM. Middle and high school runners are invited to Wingfoot Running Camp at University of Alabama in Huntsville, hosted by Atlanta Track Club.
