Driving through Hazel Green? Stop by these 3 hidden gems
Reading time: 3 minutes
Over the past few weeks, we’ve highlighted many underrated places in several of Huntsville’s suburban areas, including Toney, Harvest and Monrovia.
Despite its distance from the bustling city center, Hazel Green is one of the building blocks of the overarching culture in Huntsville.
Several outdoor destinations in Hazel Green can especially offer a fun day out for families and individuals this fall.
Table of Contents
Scott’s Orchard
Scott’s Orchard has been a staple of family fall activities in Huntsville for many years, and understandably so. Not only can you pick your own apples, but you can also browse their selections of cider and honey.
For kids, every Wednesday at 9AM the orchard will be hosting story times under the trees. Also, there is a play area open throughout the week, ensuring an enjoyable experience for every member of the family.

Boyd Family Farm
The Boyd Family Farm is another classic Huntsville fall activity for good reason. Usually, the farm is known for its summer blueberry season, but during the fall it offers pumpkin-picking fun for the whole family.
Whether you choose to go on a hay ride or pick out the perfect pumpkin for this year’s Jack-o’-lantern, the Boyd Family Farm has the fun you’re looking for.
This month, you can also visit the petting zoo and the Wild Reserve to see domestic and exotic animals during your trip.
- Where: 916 State Line Rd, Hazel Green, AL 35750
- Hours: Friday, 2-6PM; Saturday, 10AM-6PM

Trojan Trail Greenway
While a vastly different entry than the previous two hidden gems, the Trojan Trail Greenway is a fantastic walking, running and dog-walking trail to get in some exercise this fall.
The three-mile trail circles Hazel Green High School and offers beautiful natural imagery against the surrounding cityscape. As a result, it’s one of the more unique trails I’ve visited.
The trail was designed to supplement the lack of outdoor third spaces in Hazel Green. It is always open during the daytime hours with designated parking for visitors during school hours.
I highly recommend visiting this trail if you need somewhere new to meet up for a friendly jog or stroll.
