Here’s what is closed in Huntsville this year on Veterans Day

Veterans Day is Tuesday, and we have plenty to celebrate here in the Rocket City. As we honor and celebrate those who have served in the United States military, we also have several services and businesses that will be closed or unavailable.
Here’s a rundown of what is closed during the day on Veterans Day (including some roads):
What services + businesses are closed on Veterans Day

Businesses are typically open on Veterans Day, and many will actually have special sales and offers for the holiday. But most government offices and services will be closed:
- Federal offices – Closed
- State offices – Closed
- Municipal, county offices (including Animal Services, Parks & Recreation, Public Transit, and Municipal Court) — Closed
- Huntsville-Madison County Public Library locations — Closed
- Schools – Closed
- Garbage collection — Residential collection will be delayed the week of Nov. 11-15. Residents should leave carts at the curb until they are collected.
- U.S. Post Offices – Closed, no mail service will run. Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered
- FedEx and UPS – FedEx and UPS will be delivering. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground Economy will be on a modified service schedule. UPS will open on a normal schedule.
- Banks – Most closed
- Financial markets – New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed
Road closures during Veterans Day parade

Street closures along the parade route will occur in phases beginning at 8AM, with all streets closed by 10:30AM.
The parade will start at 11AM on Monroe Street near the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial, travel through and around Big Spring Park and the Von Braun Center arena and conclude near Clinton Avenue and Heart of Huntsville Drive. All roadways are expected to be reopened by 1PM.
Drivers can expect closures and limited access around:
- I-565 exit to Jefferson Street
- Jefferson Street
- Monroe Street
- Holmes Avenue
- Clinton Avenue
- Spragins Street
- Williams Avenue
- Church Street
