Here’s what’s open and closed in the Rocket City for MLK Day 2026

As we previously reported, there are several events this weekend and on Monday to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Also, since the 19th is a national holiday, some businesses and public services will be closed.
Here’s what to know:
What’s open/closed Monday

Most businesses will be open Monday, but government services (federal and local) will likely be unavailable and offices will be closed.
Closed on January 19:
- Alabama A&M University
- Alabama Constitution Village
- All banks in the Huntsville area
- Burritt on the Mountain
- Calhoun Community College
- Drake State
- Early Works Museum
- Huntsville and Madison City offices
- Huntsville, Madison city and county garbage pickup
- Huntsville City Schools
- Huntsville Depot
- Huntsville Museum of Art
- Huntsville Utilities
- Huntsville-Madison County Public Libraries
- Madison City Schools
- Madison County Schools
- Madison County offices and courts
- Redstone Arsenal
- University of Alabama in Huntsville
Here’s what’s open:
- Grocery + Drug Stores: Most will remain open, such as Aldo, Costco, Kroger, Target + Walmart.
- Package Delivery: FedEx and UPS will be open with modified services and continue delivering packages.
- Restaurants: Most local + chain restaurants will be open.
- Retail: Most retailers will be open on MLK Day.
