Here’s what’s open + closed on New Year’s Day 2025

New Year’s Day is Wednesday, and as we begin 2025, several businesses will be closed to celebrate the new year. Naturally, federal offices will be closed for the holiday, as well as county and city services. But some stores are also closed or operating under special hours.
So, here is a short list of the New year’s status of local businesses and services:
What’s closed on New Year’s Day in the Huntsville area
As mentioned above, most government offices are closed for the holiday. Here are some of the services and businesses that are closed Wednesday:
- Huntsville City Hall
- Madison City Hall
- Madison County Courthouse
- Trash pickup delayed one day in Huntsville
- USPS
- Sam’s Club
- Costco
- Aldi
- Trader Joe’s
- Banks and other financial institutions
What’s open for New Year’s Day
Most retail stores and restaurants will be open Wednesday, but some may operate under special holiday hours. Here’s a list of some of the businesses open for the holiday:
- BJ’s Wholesale
- Publix (closes at 8PM)
- Food City (closes at 9PM)
- Kroger
- Target
- Walmart
- CVS
- Chick-fil-A
- TJ Maxx (closes at 6PM)
- Home Depot (closes at 8PM)
- Lowe’s
- Ace Hardware
Most fast food restaurants and chains like Applebee’s, Chili’s, Red Robin and the like will also be open Wednesday.
