New home listings increased in Huntsville + Madison in September 2026

In September, the real estate market in the Huntsville area saw a noted decrease in the number of homes sold—especially in Huntsville (a 7.8% increase) and Madison (a 17.1% increase)—and overall saw homes stay on the market longer than they did in August.

Median home prices increased in Athens, Decatur and Florence, while they decreased in Huntsville and Madison.

The number of new home listings increased in Huntsville and Madison last month, and homes stayed on the market a little longer, which illustrates a trend toward the buyer right now.

With the summer buying season coming to an end, seeing higher inventory is nothing unusual, according to the Alabama Association of Realtors, and a slowing of the market does not necessarily mean a broader economic slowdown.
