It’s no secret that summers in Huntsville are hot, and today we’re seeing some of the most intense temperatures of the year so far.

Read on what you can expect from Tuesday’s heat, how to prepare for it and when we will start to see some relief.

Huntsville’s heat index is 112

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for most of the state through 9PM on Tuesday, July 29. But the northeast corner has been upgraded to an extreme heat warning from NWS.

Areas like Huntsville, Russellville and the Shoals could see a heat index of up to 112 degrees. Those areas neared triple digits in actual temperature on Monday.

While several areas saw their “feels like” temperatures reach triple digits already this week, Tuesday will feel even hotter. Other spots in Alabama forecasted to see heat indices of at least 109 include:

  • Andalusia
  • Eufaula
  • Fort Payne
  • Gadsden
  • Jasper
  • Mobile
  • Montgomery
  • Selma
  • Tuscaloosa
