If you’re anything like me, you keep your holiday decorations up for entirely too long. The magic of the season shouldn’t end so abruptly, and figuring out what to do with your live tree can seem daunting.

However, did you know that there is an easy way to dispose of your tree that also helps Madison County?

Keep reading to learn more about the only city-wide effort to repurpose those trees.

Don’t trash that tree! (City of Huntsville)

Operation Christmas Cleanup is a yearly initiative on behalf of the cities of Huntsville + Madison, Green Team, Madison County, Recycling Alliance of North Alabama (RANA) + the Solid Waste Disposal Authority.

This is the seventh year of the event, with this year adding 2 drop-off locations between Madison and Huntsville. Last year, the event garnered around 1,000 Christmas trees from over 500 vehicles.

On January 10, you can drop off your live tree at Madison City Schools Stadium on Celtic Drive or at John Hunt Park from 8AM-1PM.

Acceptable donations for Operation Christmas Cleanup

  • Live Christmas trees
  • FLATTENED cardboard boxes
  • Batteries
  • Old electronics

The trees must be free of lights, decorations and ornaments before donation.

Upon donation, the trees will be recycled into mulch or compost and redistributed into landfills + parks across Madison County.
