Give back with your utility bill through Project Share

Watch to learn how Project Share supports the Huntsville community. (Huntsville Utilities)

Project Share is an initiative launched by Huntsville Utilities in December 1988 to make sure all community members have access to an overlooked basic need: utilities.

An easy way to give back: By adding just $1 or more to your monthly utilities, you can directly help those in need make it through the winter.

Filling the need: Funds collected through Project Share help elderly, disabled and handicapped customers pay utility bills during the most frigid months—January to March.

Here’s who you’re supporting through your donation:

  • Utility customers aged 62+ or those certified as disabled or handicapped
  • Income Limitation: Must be on a low or fixed income designated by Alabama Department of Human Resources (potential recipients screened by Salvation Army)

See the collective impact of Project Share:

  • Funds raised in 2024: $146,022.60
    • Families helped: 655
  • Community contributions since 1988: $5,808,397.44
    • Families helped: 30,764

In addition to sharing funds with families to pay for utility bills, Huntsville Utilities designates 30% of Project Share donations to energy-saving home projects.

What does this mean? The Huntsville Utilities team goes to qualifying low-income residents’ homes to make valuable renovations, helping them save money in the long-run.
