Huntsville Animal Services is trying to make room in the shelter for more animals needing a home, and are asking the public to help clear the shelter through its “Elect to Adopt” campaign.

The “Elect to Adopt” campaign is part of the larger nationwide “Clear the Shelters” initiative, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

Mayor Tommy Battle will kick off the campaign Wednesday, Aug. 7.

To celebrate, HAS is waiving adoption fees on most adult pets to help reduce the number of animals in the shelter and find them loving homes.

“You’re going to hear a lot about making choices this year, all the way up through Nov. 5. That’s why we’re asking residents to elect to adopt — not shop — and give loving homes to these great animals.”

Virgie Graham, interim director for Huntsville Animal Services
