Huntsville Animal Services is now at critical shelter capacity
Reading time: 2 minutes

Our friends at Huntsville Animal Services (HAS) announced on Tuesday, October 6 that they’ve reached critical shelter capacity, and they have called on the local community for assistance.
The announcement was made on a HAS Facebook post, which was followed up by two livestreams covering the situation.
No single rescue caused this, like when the shelter rescued 77 animals at once back in February. It’s just been a steady flood of strays lately.

How you can help Huntsville Animal Services

When Huntsville Animal Services reaches critical capacity, they unfortunately have to consider euthanizing animals to make space. Obviously, nobody wants to see that happen — here are some ways you can help:
- Adoption: Take a look at the HAS website to see the full list of animals available for adoption, or you can visit the animals in person
- 📍 4950 SW Triana Blvd, Huntsville, AL 35805
- 📅 Mon + Wed-Fri, 9AM-5PM | Tue, 9AM-6PM | Sat, 9AM-3PM | Sun, closed
- Foster-to-rehome: Through this program, you will care for the animal until it’s adopted by its forever family. This is also a great opportunity for the animal to socialize outside of the shelter.
- Foster-to-adopt: This program allows you to experience a 14-day trial period with an animal before permanent adoption. It can be thought of as a kind of “test drive,” to make sure the animal will fit well in your home.
- Sleep-over: This new program allows you to house an animal at your home for 1-4 days. This is a great way to help Huntsville Animal Services in the short-term, without any sort of long-term commitment.
If adoption or fostering isn’t in the cards for you, simply sharing the news with your friends or co-workers can go a long way!
