Today is National Beer Day, folks! And those of us fortunate enough to live here in Huntsville are in luck because beer has kind of become our thing over the last several years.
Huntsville’s craft beer scene is top-notch, and if you haven’t visited our breweries, National Beer Day is a great excuse. Here’s a little guide to Huntsville brews:

Bowler Hat Brewing in Madison brews up some really tasty beers. Although you can’t go wrong with any of their brews, I think my favorite is the Citra India Pale Ale. Give them a try!

Chandlers Ford Brewing
I love BeeZr in Downtown Huntsville. Great food and an awesome atmosphere are two reasons to visit, but on National Beer Day, I recommend trying some Chandlers Ford beers. I recommend the Deception dark lager.

Fractal Brewing Project
I love Fractal Brewing in Huntsville mainly because you are likely to try some beers there that you simply cannot find anywhere else. The beer menu is unique and the location is perfect. My favorite (right now) from Fractal is the Invariant Amber Ale.

Green Bus Brewing
Located right in the heart of Downtown Huntsville, Green Bus Brewing is a small and quaint spot with a lower profile than some of the larger breweries in the Rocket City. But make no mistake — these folks can brew some darn good beer. My favorite is the Big Spring IPA, but you can celebrate National Beer Day quite well with any of their brews!

Innerspace Brewing Co.
I got to sample some of the beers at Innerspace Brewing when I went to the Werner Von Brewski festival earlier this year. I am a fan of all of their beers but I think my favorite is the Gallway Hooker Red Ale.

Mad Malts Brewing
Another great spit to celebrate National Beer Day is Mad Malts Brewing on maple Avenue in Huntsville. They have a fantastic selection and you are bound to enjoy all of their offerings, but I will highly recommend the Blood Orange IPA.
- Address: 109 Maple Ave NW, Huntsville, AL 35801
- Hours: Tuesday-Thursday 4PM-10PM; Friday-Saturday 4PM-10PM

Old Black Bear Brewing Company
Old Black Bear Brewing Company and Taproom anchors Main Street in Madison. Their beers and spirits have great reviews, and I’ve heard their weekend brunch is some of the best in town. Try the Cave City Lager while you’re there!

Salty Nut Brewery has become one of my favorite spots to have a beer since I moved here last year. And while I have not met one of their beers I don’t love, I will recommend the Berried Away Pastry Stout.

Yellowhammer Brewing
Perhaps one of the best breweries in the entire state is Yellowhammer Brewing at Campus 805 in Huntsville. Not only can you get a delicious pizza there, but you will also find a beer selection that is second to none. My favorite is the T-Minus Tangerine Kolsch.
- Address: 2600 Clinton Ave W, Huntsville, AL 35805
- Hours: Sunday 11AM-8PM; Monday-Thursday 11AM-9PM; Friday-Saturday 11AM-11PM

Straight to Ale
A National Beer Day celebration piece would be incomplete if I did not highlight the wonderful beers offered at Huntsville’s own Straight to Ale brewery. In addition to good food and a unique atmosphere at Campus 805, they have an extensive beer menu. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I think mine is the Stout at the Devil.
