Huntsville Havoc reach SPHL semifinals against in-state rival Birmingham

Just when you thought perhaps the 2022-23 season for the Huntsville Havoc was over, this gritty team has advanced to the Southern Professional Hockey League semifinals and heads back home to Huntsville with a chance to move on to the league championship series.

Huntsville swept Knoxville in the best-of-3 series to open the SPHL playoffs, setting up a series against the in-state rival Birmingham Bulls this coming weekend.

The Havoc defeated the Knoxville Ice Bears 5-1 in Game 1 of their playoff series on Thursday night at the Huntsville Ice Sports Center. In Game 2 on Friday night at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum, Huntsville won 3-2 to advance to the next round of the playoffs.

Huntsville goaltender Max Milosek made 20 saves on 21 shots in the first game and made 25 saves on 27 shots for Huntsville in Game 2.

The semifinal schedule

The semifinals open in Birmingham, with the Havoc facing the Bulls Friday at 7PM. The series comes to Huntsville Saturday night at Propst Arena for a 7PM game as well.

If necessary, Game 3 will be played Sunday in Birmingham at 6PM.
