The Lawrence County Commission this week announced that Huntsville Hospital will move forward with building a $14 million medical facility in Moulton, months after the Lawrence Medical Center closed its ER services.
Huntsville Hospital will build the facility on a 20-acre plot that has room for expansion as needed.

The new facility will be located east of Walmart on Highway 24 in Moulton. Huntsville Hospital plans to invest $14 million into its new facility– $8 million for the building itself and another $6 million for equipment.
State Representative Ernie Yarbrough said Huntsville Hospital plans to build “a first class outpatient facility with extended hours,” with space to grow and possibly build a free-standing ER.
According to Yarbrough, Huntsville Hospital has also agreed to help the county acquire a FEMA certified emergency response trailer that can provide life-saving care on site of emergency situations.
Fire Chief Brian Phillips has already agreed to keep the trailer at the Moulton Fire Station when it’s not in use. As well, the hospital donated $60,000 to volunteer fire departments in Lawrence County.
“We all agree that as we navigate this situation to a better tomorrow for Lawrence County, we need to do all we can to make sure that lives in the balance can receive life-saving care on site and then be safely transported to wherever is needed to give them longer term care.”
Rep. Ernie Yarbrough
A time frame has not been announced for the facility.
