The Huntsville Police Department officially opened its much-anticipated Crime Scene and Evidence Warehouse Complex today. The new facility, located at 616 Wheeler Ave. NW, brings the Crime Scene Investigations and Digital Forensics teams under one roof.

The $9.6 million complex includes a 14,000-square-foot main building with labs and processing areas, and a 13,500-square-foot climate-controlled warehouse for evidence and vehicle storage.

HPD Chief Kirk Giles said the new facility is “a game-changer” for how the police department investigates crimes, and “marks a major step forward” in how the department serves and protects the city.

Mayor Tommy Battle said the investment underscores Huntsville’s commitment to innovation and community trust.

“Public safety is the foundation of a thriving City. This new complex strengthens that foundation by giving our police department the space and technology to meet that challenge and continue delivering the highest standard of public service.”

HPD personnel will now begin moving equipment and operations into the new building, preparing to fully utilize the facility to enhance investigative capabilities and streamline operations.
