John and Cayley, founders of the nonprofit (Michael Corrigan)

The nonprofit was founded by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting and Cayley Tull of the Tullman Family Office in 2023.

Each year, they put on the Music Matters Challenge to encourage individuals and schools to celebrate the transformative power that music can have.

Earlier we mentioned a panel of qualified of judges—Ondrasik and Tull are on that panel, but they are also joined by former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum and indie pop-star Tiger La Flor.

In addition to the $10,000 prize awarded to the individual winner, they also pick a school to receive a $25,000 grant, which is put towards supporting its music program.
